Tip #12

Plan the work, then work the plan

For larger homework assignments it is important to have a plan of work to ensure the following:

  • that you have covered all the material requested
  • that you know how you are going to start
  • that you know how you are going to finish
  • that you know when you have completed your work
  • that you know how much work you have left to complete

Take some time to complete a simple plan.

Example - you have been asked to produce a project on jewellery and its use over the ages.

A plan to cover this topic may look something like this:

Identify points to make - 10 minutes
Write up main points in draft - 25 minutes
Collect pictures to accompany report - 20 minutes
Write closing text to the report - 10 minutes
Work on front sheet - 10 minutes
Check text for spelling etc.. - 5 minutes
Produce master copy - 15 minutes
Put in folder for presentation - 5 minutes

You will then be able to plan when the assignment has to be done, and what days each part of the assignment could be completed over.
