Tip #13

Dealing with homework you cannot complete

From time to time you may be totally stumped by a homework assignment. If you find yourself in this situation you can try some of the following:

  • Ask an adult (doesn't always work but at least let them know that you are having a problem)
  • Attempt the parts of the assignment that you can do and indicate to your teacher (by writing it down) that you had a problem with a part of the homework.
  • Make sure you keep a record of your difficulties in your homework workbook. Your teacher will want to know what problems you had and what you tried to do to solve the problem.
  • Speak to your teacher about the problem you had - you will often find that if you have attempted the work they are more than willing to listen.
  • Don't get stressed out. Even the prime Minister gets stuck and has to ask for help (in fact the prime Minister has a LOT of advisors - I bet he doesn't have problems with his homework!).
  • Try putting the work aside for a while, and attempting it later on. Sometimes a good nights sleep will clear your head and you will find you can attempt the work - and complete it.
  • Ask a friend - keep a few phone numbers of school friends who would have been set the same piece of homework. Ask them how they handled it.
