Tip #18
How to conduct subject research
Often your class teacher will ask you to research
a subject before it is covered in the class. teachers set Homework
like this to ensure that all students have covered some material
in the subject, so everyone should feel comfortable as the teachers
starts to explain in more detail what the subject is all about.
So, if you have been asked to research earthquakes
you need to investigate the basic principles behind earthquakes,
where they happen, why, and what are the effects, how we measure
their power. You do not need to become an expert on tectonic plates.
Make a plan of what you hope to cover so you
know when you have finished. A simple plan could cover:
- How - something happens
- What - actually happens
- When - particular times or seasons it occurs
- Who - is involved/effected
- Where - does it happen
- Why - does it happen
Subject Based research should start with each
of the main subject pages: Maths,
English Language, English
Literature, Science, Geography,
History, PSRE
Make sure that you list the sources of your
research to ensure that your teacher knows where you have investigated.
Web sites should be noted by their title and web address. Reference
help can be found on the left bar of all HomeWork Elephant screens.
Check to see if HomeWork elephant has found
an expert for you to ask.
General help can also be found at the Research it
web site.
