Tip #31

Number Tricks - nine times table

Callie and Jessica have reminded us of the easy way to remember how to do your Nine Times Table.

To multiply a number by nine - just take 1 away from the number, then find the number that you need to add to the remaining number to make nine. To make sure you get it right add up the numbers in your answer and make sure that it comes to 9. This works for multiplication up to 10.

Example: seven times nine (7 x 9), take one away from the seven, that makes six. Then you would add three to six to make nine so the second part of the answer is three. So the complete answer is sixty three (63). Checking by adding up the numbers (6 + 3 = 9) shows the answer to be right!
